Featherlite vs Marathon: 6 Prevost Converters Compared
Featherlite Coaches and Marathon Coach are both active Prevost Authorized Converter Partners building new coaches today. Marathon is the larger builder. Featherlite is the boutique one, with more than 800 coaches built and 6 to 8 a year, up to two of them full Bespoke commissions. Liberty, Millennium, Emerald and LOKI also convert Prevost. Newell builds its own platform.
If you are reading this, you are probably somewhere in the middle of a long comparison. You have watched the walkthroughs, you have read the spec sheets, and you have noticed that every builder in this category says roughly the same things about craftsmanship and quality.
That is the hard part. At this level, everyone builds a good coach. What separates them is quieter, and it shows up over years rather than in a brochure.
This page covers all six of Prevost's converter partners plus Newell, gives each one credit for what it does well, and then tells you where we are different and why that might matter to you. We are Featherlite, so we have a side. You should read it knowing that, and we have tried to make it worth reading anyway.
How to Compare Luxury Coach Converters

Most comparisons start with floorplans. Floorplans matter, and they are also the thing most likely to change your mind twice before you sign anything.
The criteria that hold up over a decade of ownership are these five.
The chassis platform. Everything else is built on top of it. A commercial over-the-road platform and a purpose-built motorhome chassis are two different engineering philosophies, and the difference is worth understanding before you choose a builder, because most builders only work on one.
Construction quality. Not how the coach photographs. How it feels in the third year, whether the cabinetry still closes flush, whether the trim still lines up after 30,000 miles of road input.
The degree of customization. Every builder in this category offers choices. The real question is how early in the build your choices get made, because that determines how much of the coach is yours and how much was decided before you arrived.
Service and support after the sale. A coach of this complexity will need attention. The question is who provides it, how far you have to travel, and whether the person on the phone knows your specific coach.
The ownership experience over time. Most buyers at this level will own more than one coach. Whether your builder helps you move from one to the next, or leaves you to figure that out alone, changes what ownership costs you in years and in friction.
We named those five because they are what owners tell us mattered, and yes, they favor the way we work. Read the table and decide for yourself whether they are the right five.
The question is not which builder makes the best coach. It is which one you want answering the phone in year three.

The table holds the five builders buyers cross-shop most often. Emerald and LOKI are the other two Prevost converter partners, and both are profiled below.
Every figure above comes from each company's own published material or from Prevost's converter partner page, which currently names six partners: Emerald, Featherlite, Liberty, LOKI, Marathon and Millennium. The one row worth sitting with is production approach, because scale and boutique are not better and worse. They are two different answers to the same question, and the right one depends on how much of the coach you want to decide yourself.
The 7 Builders, Fairly

Marathon Coach
Marathon is the largest luxury coach converter in the world by volume, and they have been at it since 1983. Their scale is real and it buys real things: a deep parts inventory, sales and service in three states, and a build process refined over four decades. Marathon says a typical coach takes 9 to 12 months and between 10,000 and 15,000 labor hours. If you want the security of the biggest operation in the category, Marathon is a defensible choice and we would tell you so.
Liberty Coach
Liberty has been converting Prevost shells since 1972, which makes them the longest continuously operating converter in the business, with more than 900 conversions completed. Three generations of the same family have run it. Their interiors are recognizable enough that owners talk about the "Liberty Look" as a category of its own, and their Stuart, Florida location keeps them close to snowbird owners. Known for their partnership with Dean Loucks, a renowned artist, and his "Artist Series" exterior paint designs. Liberty owners tend to be loyal, and that loyalty is earned.
Millennium Luxury Coaches
Millennium reaches its 25th anniversary in 2026, working out of a 100,000 square foot facility in Sanford, Florida. They pair traditional cabinetry and finish work with heavy investment in home automation and custom power systems, and they state 24/7 service support across North America. Buyers who want a more traditional look combined with technology should have Millennium on the list.
In May 2026, Millennium and The Motorcoach Store announced a unification. Founder Nelson Figueroa continues as President of Millennium and joined The Motorcoach Store board, and Millennium says the Sanford operation and the people in it are unchanged. More capital behind a builder is typically a good thing for the buyer, and it is worth knowing who owns the company you are buying from.
Newell Coach
Newell is the one converter here that is not a Prevost converter. Founded in 1967, they design and build their own chassis and body rather than starting from a Prevost shell, which gives them control over the whole vehicle from the frame up. That is a coherent philosophy and Newell executes it well. This frame up style of building gives more flexibility in slide room placements while sacrificing frame rigidity and safety. If total in-house integration is your priority, Newell is the only company in this comparison offering it.
Emerald Luxury Coaches
Emerald has been converting Prevost coaches since 2012, working out of a 50,000 square foot facility in Stephenville, Texas. Their roots are in horse trailers. They started on the XLII platform, moved to the H3-45 in 2017, and now build on the current H3-45. Their stated goal is a coach that is easy to operate, which is a more useful design target than it sounds.
LOKI Coach
The new kids on the block. LOKI builds in Québec City, with a US presence through The Motorcoach Store in Bradenton, Florida. Their design language is contemporary and minimal, and they push hardest on power and autonomy, with battery and solar systems sized for extended stretches away from shore power. If you want the most modern interior in the category and you spend real time off hookups, LOKI belongs on your list.
One Note on How the Field Is Changing
The Motorcoach Store is now both LOKI's exclusive US sales partner and Millennium's parent. Two of the builders on this page sit under one commercial roof, with more capital and inventory behind them than either had alone.
That is context, not a caution. It does mean the field is a little smaller than the list of names suggests, and when you are choosing a builder you will live with for a decade, knowing who owns whom is a fair thing to factor in.
Featherlite Coaches
Featherlite began in the yacht world, with the first Vantaré motorhome debuting at the 1991 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and that origin still shapes how we build. We joined the Adams family of businesses in 2008, we have completed more than 800 coaches, and we are a current Prevost Authorized Converter Partner building at our Suffolk, Virginia facility today. We also have a service facility in Sanford, FL as well as mobile service.
What makes us different is that we build fewer coaches on purpose. Six to eight a year, and up to two of those are full Bespoke Design commissions. Everything else in this article is downstream of that decision, including the three distinctions below.
What Sets Featherlite Apart
Yacht-quality construction
We build the way a custom yacht yard builds, with marine-grade materials, lightweight structure, and fit and finish that is checked at the joint rather than at the photo. Andrew Steele reviews luxury coaches on his own channel and has walked through more of them than most owners ever will. He said this an hour and twenty-four minutes into a full walkthrough of a new Featherlite, long after any first impression had worn off: "every little detail on this coach is well done"
That is the standard we chase. Not the impressive first impression, but the detail you find in month eight.
Boutique customization
Six to eight coaches a year is a constraint we chose. Every one of them is personalized, and up to two are full Bespoke commissions, which run roughly 24 months and involve you from the Prevost shell order forward, through floorplan, cabinetry, materials, storage and exterior paint. It also means we cannot take everyone, and we would rather tell you that early than stretch the shop thin.
The result is coaches that do not look like each other. That is the point of the Bespoke Design Package, and it is the reason our owners can pick their coach out of a row at a resort.
Concierge mindset
Support is part of the product, not a department that starts after the sale. New Featherlite coaches include three years of concierge service, and our owners get priority scheduling at Suffolk and at Sanford, Florida. Kevin Ray came to us as a pre-owned buyer, called our Florida location before he bought anything, and wrote this afterward: "people are the difference and these gentlemen deserve your praise".
Tina, a professional driver in motorsports who has been running coaches for two decades, said it from the other direction: "Your service team is the best I've experienced in doing this for 20+ years."
The Prevost Platform, and Why We Build on It

Prevost engineers its platforms as fully welded, integrally engineered structures with a proprietary beam design meant to minimize flex over hundreds of thousands of commercial miles. That platform exists because it carries fare-paying passengers for a living. Over-the-road buses are held to a federal rollover structural integrity standard, FMVSS No. 227, which took effect December 30, 2024, and requires the vehicle to preserve occupant survival space in a dynamic rollover test.
A converted motorhome is not a commercial bus and is not certified to that standard, and we will not claim otherwise. What you are buying is the engineering lineage: a structure designed by a company whose day job is building vehicles held to that bar.
Newell's answer is that building the chassis and body yourself gives you control a converter never has. That argument has held up for nearly sixty years. We believe the commercial passenger platform is the stronger starting point, and we have built more than 800 coaches on that belief.
The Trade-Up Path
Most buyers at this level do not start with the coach they end up with. Billy and Sue Adams are the clearest example we have.
They joined the Featherlite family in September 2018, trading a 2014 Class A Newmar King Aire for a pre-owned 2013 Featherlite Prevost motorhome. In July 2019 they moved to a pre-owned 2018 Featherlite. In December 2025 they traded that coach for a brand new 2026 Featherlite Prevost motorhome.
Three trades, seven years, one builder. Each step taught them something about floorplan and how they travel, and each step was made easier because the company that sold them the last coach was also the company that would take it in trade. That is what an ownership relationship looks like when it works, and it is the part of this comparison a third-party blog cannot tell you about, because it did not happen to them.
Pre-Owned or New: How to Decide

Start with a pre-owned Featherlite when:
- You are not yet certain about floorplan, and you would rather learn that on a coach than on a build sheet
- You want to be traveling this season instead of next year
- You want to know how our service team works before you commit to a longer relationship
Buying a pre-owned Featherlite is how a good number of our new-build owners started. Billy and Sue did it twice.
Build new when:
- You already know your floorplan, and the compromise in every available coach is one you do not want to live with
- You want current systems, current Prevost shell, and three years of concierge service from day one
- The coach is going to work for you at races, family events or on the road for months at a time, and you want it built around that
If you want the full Bespoke path, plan on roughly 18 months and start the conversation early, because only two of our six to eight coaches a year go down that road.
Ready to See the Difference in Person?
Photographs and spec sheets can only take this so far. The things that separate these five builders are things you notice with your hands: how a drawer closes, how the trim meets at a corner, how quiet the salon is with the generator running, and the superior ride of a Prevost.
If you would rather start by looking, our current inventory shows what is ready now, including coaches you could be traveling in this season.
